rc.conf — system configuration for rc

DESCRIPTION

/etc/rc.conf holds the settings that rc(8) and the rc.d scripts use: which services start, and with what options. Every setting and its default is listed in /etc/defaults/rc.conf, which is read first and should not be edited; /etc/rc.conf, then /etc/rc.conf.local if it exists, override it. Settings for one service may also be put in /etc/rc.conf.d/service.

Each line is an assignment, name=value, or a comment. The values are shell words: quoted, and may refer to other settings with ${name}. The files are read, not run: any other line is reported with its file and line number, and ignored.

A service foo starts only if foo_enable is “YES”. The values of *_enable and *_restart must be “YES”, “NO”, “TRUE”, “FALSE”, “ON”, “OFF”, “1” or “0”, in any case; any other value is reported and counts as “NO”. foo_flags adds options to the service's command, and foo_program replaces the command.

The settings:

rc_conf_files

The files read after /etc/defaults/rc.conf. Default: “/etc/rc.conf /etc/rc.conf.local”.

rc_info

Print informational messages from the scripts.

rc_debug

Print debugging messages from the scripts.

rc_startmsgs

Print “Starting foo”. messages during the boot.

rcshutdown_timeout

Seconds /etc/rc.shutdown may take before init(8) stops it. Default 90.

hostname

The host's name. If empty, the kernel's default, “oxidebsd”, is kept.

tmpmfs

Mount a memory file system on /tmp: “YES”, “NO”, or “AUTO” (the default), which mounts one only if /tmp is not writable.

tmpmfs_flags

Extra mount(8) options for it.

cleanvar_enable

Remove the files in /var/run at boot.
